Fishing is for us Young

Fishing is for
us
YOUNG
or at least
YOUNG
at heart

For old
guys its
about the
beer
and
maybe the
bravado
of the
catch

For me
its all
about the
bobber
that makes it
simple

I leave the drama
under the
waves
I get
plenty of
drama every day
who needs
more

I just
focus on the
bobber and
dream
until the
fish
strikes and
I
conquer

The Peace of the Lake

Top Gun: The Biggest Fish

When You're
Top
Gun
You can lose a few
and still
cast quickly
and win
the
prize

It Felt Like a Whale

Some Serious Fishing

Size Doesn't Matter---the poem

It's not
the biggest lure
not the biggest
fisherman
Not the biggest boat
those guys hire
guides

Fresh Not Frozen---the poem

Fresh
means
just caught
not frozen
in any
way

Fish is
best
taken from
the boat
and cooked on
shore
FRESH

Fresh
means nimble
not
frozen or
rigid in
any way

People
are best
fresh too
riding the wave
ready for the
new

How about you?
fresh
or
frozen

The Biggest Steak---the poem

Posted by Picasa

The
Navy
Man
had a wish
a graduation
wish
just
one large
steak

Every
warrior
Every
David needs
a sling
to beat Goliath
the
steak
gives the
strength
beats the
fear
excites the
sprit

The family
watched
gathered
around
only coffee
to share
just to
watch the
feast
o.k.
maybe icecream
maybe

All the
entries
All
the
courses just
so
the Navy
Man
took it
slow
and conquered that
steak
42 ounces
tall

Reunion

Reunions
are nice
gathering in the
heat
Iowa of course
eating potato salad
before it
goes bad

Fishing is
better somehow
feeling
the wind
getting away
I think
I choose fishing

The Theory of Old Fishermen---a Review

The old
fishermen
get old
because they
wanted too
that's the
theory of
the
young

I'd love
to be a newbie
fishing for
the first time
wondering
just what
the fish
are hungry
for

Ya can't
worry about the
fish
and yourself
at the same
time without an
accident
so
be safe
find peace
worry about the
fish

For the Runner Athlete--fishing is easy

Wind sprints
are tough
but fishing
is
easy
I can do
both
and
beat
you at both

It's Fish Eating Time

Eating Fish
means
never counting
the calories
the sky's
the
limit

No small
bites
please
just bite
for the
gusto of
the moment

Kids get that
gusto
thing
they know they
got plenty of time
to count
calories
Later

The Bait Matters---the poem

The
bait lures
the fish
you
are the fisherman
not the
bait

The fisherperson
can
be boy
or girl
young
or old
weak
or
strong
but always
strong of
heart

Baiting
your own
hook
means
you
are ready
for the
bigtime

It's Strawberry Time--

Strawberries and Fish:

I just love
strawberries
and
fish too
of course

Strawberries are easier
somehow
no
worms
or hooks
or
cleaning

I can
eat
fish forever
if my grandpa
cleans them

My grandpa
says
the record for
strawberries is
one quart
Amy did that
and broke
out in
hives

I do need
to
stop
but
oh well
hives aint so
bad

Flying Standby---the poem

I
used to
fly first class
suited just so
yes I'd like
a martini
shaken
not stirred
on the
corporate tab
please

Those were
the days
when
planes served
food
and even
did
maintenance
and arrived on
time

Only bums
flew standby
then
now
the whole world
is in
line
lounging
waiting to see
if maybe
one could
get lucky

The Holy
Grail
was the prize of
old
Now just
a piece of lost
luggage would
do
nicely

We used to
dream of
world
wide travel
but
today
just surviving
Heathrow
will
do

I used
to
think planes were
cool
and bikes, and trikes just
bush
those simple
bikes seem
so cool now
that
they're
all I can
afford
anyway

Elvis was a Peace Officer---the poem

Elvis
was a
peace officer
with
lots of
badges
that meant
he needed
a
peace
of what or
where
or when

I'd
like
a badge
to
prove
I love the
law
love the peace
or at
least the
badge

I'd get
a flashing
light for
the car
red, or
yellow
or
blue for
blue devil
go
big blue!!

I'd build
a
lodge
just to
gather
the other
peaceful ones
to party
and
fish
or
hunt
or whatever
peace officers
do

Elvis
was a
peace
officer
I wanna
be
one
too

Mocha or Mercy---the poem

When I
was
young
I wanted to
be
sharp
as a
tack
coffee
helped

The
edge was
fun
riding the
waves
of caffeine
I never
knew
great
from
overcaffeinated
ideas
is there
really
any difference?

I'd like
to
mellow
someday
not now
but
maybe later
when
I could
afford to
relax a
bit and
forget keepin
up

I just hope
the mellow
uncaffeinated
days come
before
and not
after
the
end

The Last Snicker Bar---the poem

(Ed.note: I found this little ditty in a rumpled up ball of paper in an old Toyota Corolla in a local junkyard. Just thought I would share.)

They
headed out
to
Phoenix
21
free
married
with a
job
loaded Toyota
and some
munchies

Some
tears the
first few
miles
then
the road
settled in
cool night
driving
miles
blurred

Somewhere
in the
desert
the facts
aren't
clear
the testimony
unsworn
the munchies
were gone
only a
snickers bar
remained

They
agreed to
split
the snickers
even
steven
bite for
bite
Over the
years
noone
knows who
got the
extra bite

Over the years
we
wonder
who got
the extra
bite
When I
ask
they
just
smile

The Quarterback---the Poem

(Ed.note: I found this rumpled up and tossed aside in a restroom at Exit #4 at River Falls, Wisconsin. I have faithfully reproduced it as best I can.)

Snowing
the
visibility is
bad
the quarterback is
going
back
back
looking to throw----
no
no
no
rolling out to his left
looking
looking to
throw
no
no
now rolling the other way
looking
looking
no
no
moving to center now
seems unsure
what to do
looking down the
field
looking
looking
now he's in the
pocket
no..now he's out of the
pocket
looks like a Packer
uniform
no maybe
it's a Viking
uniform
looking
both ways now
seems unsure
in fact
that
may not
be a
quarterback
the field is real
snowy
vision bad
maybe this
is just
a dream
a bad
quarterback
dream

Sandcastles---the poem

The secret
to
sand castles
is
to dig
real
deep==
dig
dig
dig

The moat
is the
key
and
when
you're
young
ya just
love
to
dig
dig
dig

After
the moat
the castle is
next
big
big
big
no excuses
whatever
it
takes
big
big
big

My
digging
is less
now
I have
seen
both sides
now
My castles
are
smaller
now
I have seen
both
sides
I know
the power
of the
waves
the way
they change
in
a
heartbeat
